Germanonautilus

Germanonautilus is a cephalopod genus in the nautilid family Tainoceratidae. It is characterized by a particularly broad shell with a flat venter and is relatively large, reaching diameters of over 30 cm. The genus contains many species and was geographically widespread, occurring in south and central Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia and India, and the Circum-Pacific regions of North America and Japan. It lived from the Middle Triassic to the Lower Jurassic.

140 occurrences of Germanonautilus on record, most of them in the Late Triassic. Bar height is expected occurrences, not a count: each fossil is spread across the span it is dated to, so a tall narrow bar means tight dating and a low wide one means loose.

When

140 occurrences

These are dates about fossils, not the animal: the record can only begin after it arose and end before it died out, so either end may reach further. Shares are expected occurrences: a fossil dated to a span is counted partly in each period it straddles. More on what this infers.
